Antichamber
More and more people made Construct their second home, some even moved into the simulation for good, since the life support systems made it possible. The simulation offered thousand times more than the real world, so there was no reason to stay in it any longer. Everyone was given a new chance there. There was no room for poverty, as the new world offered infinite money, fame, beauty, cars and everything you could ever wish for. No need to pay mortgages, no need to spend days and nights working hard in order to be able to survive. Illnesses were replaced by strength and vigour. Every desire was fulfilled in the world of Construct.
The world became a place of infinite entertainment. No consequences, as everything could have easily been tried again, repeated, every mistake could have been deleted. And the most important of all, the absence of death. It was simply not possible to die inside the simulation; everyone was either reborn or immortal in the first place. There was no way to get hurt, no risks to take, every possibility was to be explored without any fear. People finally found their Promised Land, their paradise. The excitement lasted for many years and over the course of time, almost everyone became part of Construct. Technology became so advanced that AI could easily sustain all the needs of those connected. Humanity was at its peak, celebrating its triumph over life.
There was no need to work anymore, all the most pressing issues were solved; The traffic ceased to exist, the air became clear again, people no longer had to consume organic matter. They lived their own lives inside Construct and so did the nature around their docking stations. Yet, even the most delicious food becomes bland after some time, and so doubts soon crawled into the minds of some of the simulation’s inhabitants. Is this really the humanity’s greatest achievement? Is someone whose life is sustained only through tubes and cables still a human? Is it even possible to leave the simulation which we all became part of so easily? A seed of disagreement slowly began to sprout in the minds of several individuals.
